Add a JPG, PNG or phone photo of a printed page to get its text as an editable Word file. The text is read on your device with OCR, and you can check and correct it before you download.
How to convert JPG to Word
- Pick the language of the text, and a second one if the page mixes two.
- Add your photos or scans: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF or a scanned PDF.
- Check the text that appears and correct anything the OCR misread.
- Choose "Keep the lines" for forms, addresses and receipts, or "Join lines into paragraphs" for letters and book pages.
- Press Download Word (.docx).
Which layout to choose
A photo of a letter read line by line gives a Word line for every printed line, with breaks where the photo had them. Joined into paragraphs, the same letter becomes a few paragraphs that re-flow when you change the font or margins, which is easier to edit. A line ending in a hyphen is joined without a space and the hyphen kept, since a split word and a hyphenated word look the same to OCR.
Need the text only? Image to Text copies it or saves a .txt or searchable PDF. Already have a PDF with selectable text? PDF to Word keeps its layout without OCR.
OCR by Tesseract (tesseract.js, Apache-2.0); the Word file is written in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a JPG to an editable Word document?
Choose the language of the text, add the photo or scan, and wait while the text is read on your device. Check the text in the box (you can correct it there), choose whether to keep the lines as they are or join them into paragraphs, and press Download Word (.docx). The file opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice.
Is it free, and is my photo uploaded?
It's free with no sign-up. The photo never leaves your device: the OCR engine runs in your browser, so it works for private letters and forms. The first use downloads the engine (about 4 MB) and the language model you pick (0.3 to 2.1 MB) once.
Will the Word file look like my photo?
It holds the text, not the design: each printed line as a line, or the lines joined into paragraphs you can re-wrap. Fonts, columns and tables aren't rebuilt. Tick 'Put each picture above its text' to keep the original image in the file to compare against.
Which languages can it read?
English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Pick a second language for mixed text, like Hindi and English on one form; Arabic and Urdu paragraphs are set right to left in Word.
Can I put several photos into one Word file?
Yes. Add up to 20 images or scanned PDF pages, then press 'Download Word (.docx), all': each image's text starts on a new page, in the order you added them.
Does it work with handwriting?
Not well. The engine (Tesseract) is made for printed text; clear, straight, well-lit photos give the best results. Check names, numbers and amounts before you use them, and press ↻ if a photo is sideways.
