  • The 8th Pay Commission was set up in November 2025 and has 18 months to report. Figures discussed publicly range from about 1.83 to 2.86; none is official.

An illustration, not an official pay figure: the fitment factor, DA and HRA under the 8th Pay Commission are assumptions until the government accepts its report.

How to use it

  1. Pick your 7th CPC pay level and your basic pay (the cell on your pay slip). DA starts at the current 60%.
  2. Choose your city class for HRA and your transport allowance place.
  3. Choose a fitment factor, or tap one of the figures discussed publicly, and compare today's gross pay with the estimate.

How it's worked out

Today: DA = basic × 60%, HRA = basic × 30/20/10% (at least ₹5,400/₹3,600/₹1,800), transport allowance from the 2017 slabs plus DA on it. Estimate: new basic = basic × fitment factor, then DA, HRA and transport allowance with the rates you set for the new pay. The 7th CPC fixed pay the same way, with a factor of 2.57.

Worked example

Level 6, first cell (₹35,400 basic) in an X city with the higher transport allowance: today 35,400 + DA 21,240 + HRA 10,620 + transport 3,600 + DA on transport 2,160 = ₹73,020 a month. At a fitment factor of 2.57, with DA back to 0% and HRA at 24%, the basic becomes ₹90,978 and the gross about ₹1,16,413, ₹43,393 (59.4%) more.

Frequently asked questions

Has the 8th Pay Commission announced a fitment factor?

No. The commission was constituted in November 2025, chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, and has 18 months to make its recommendations. Until the government accepts its report, every fitment factor, including the ones on this page, is an assumption.

Which fitment factors are being discussed?

Reports have mentioned about 1.83 to 2.46 (a brokerage estimate), 1.92 to 2.08 (a former finance secretary), and 2.86 from the employees' side; employee bodies have asked for more. The 7th Pay Commission used 2.57. Tap a figure to try it, or type your own.

What happens to DA when the new pay starts?

When the 7th CPC pay began in 2016, the old DA was folded into the new basic pay and DA restarted at 0%. The calculator assumes the same unless you change it under 'DA and HRA under the new pay'.

How is HRA worked out?

Today HRA is 30%, 20% or 10% of basic pay in X, Y and Z cities, because DA is above 50% (DoE order of 7 July 2017), with minimums of ₹5,400, ₹3,600 and ₹1,800. When DA restarted in 2016 the rates were 24%, 16% and 8%, so the estimate uses those by default.

When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?

The government's press release on the terms of reference said its effect 'would normally be expected from 01.01.2026', following the ten-year pattern, but no date has been notified. Arrears, if any, would depend on the date the government decides.

Does this show my take-home pay?

No, it shows gross monthly pay before deductions such as NPS or UPS contributions, CGHS and income tax, which depend on your scheme and tax choices.
