Worked example
A family with an adjusted family net income of $75,000 has Aarav, born in November 2020, and Maya, born in March 2016. Until November, Aarav is under 6: the maximum is $8,157 + $6,883 = $15,040, less 13.5% × ($75,000 − $38,237) = $4,963.01, so the family gets $10,076.99 a year, or $839.75 a month. Aarav turns 6 in November, so from December both children are in the 6–17 band and the payment is ($13,766 − $4,963.01) ÷ 12 = $733.58. Over the year that's $9,333.83. The CRA's own example, three children over 6 and an income of $50,000, gets $18,414.03, which the calculator matches.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the Canada child benefit for 2026–27?
From July 2026 to June 2027 the maximum is $8,157 a year ($679.75 a month) for each child under 6 and $6,883 a year ($573.58 a month) for each child aged 6 to 17. Families with an adjusted family net income of $38,237 or less get the maximum; above that it's reduced.
How is the CCB reduced as income rises?
Between $38,237 and $82,847 the CRA takes off 7% of the income over $38,237 for one child, 13.5% for two, 19% for three and 23% for four or more. Above $82,847 it takes off $3,123, $6,022, $8,476 or $10,260 plus 3.2%, 5.7%, 8% or 9.5% of the income over $82,847. For one child under 6 the benefit runs out at about $240,000; for one child aged 6 to 17 at about $200,000.
Which income does the CRA use?
Your adjusted family net income from the year before the benefit year starts: for July 2026 to June 2027, the 2025 tax year. That's your net income (line 23600 of the return) plus your spouse's or common-law partner's, with a few adjustments such as registered disability savings plan income. Both of you need to file your returns, even with no income, for the CRA to pay the CCB.
What happens when my child turns 6 or 18?
The CRA uses each child's age on the first day of each payment month. A child turning 6 gets the under-6 rate in their birthday month and the 6–17 rate from the next month. The last payment for a child is in the month they turn 18. A new baby counts from the month after birth. The calculator follows these rules month by month, so enter each child's birth month and year.
How does shared custody work?
If a child lives with each parent 40% to 60% of the time, each parent gets 50% of what they would get with full custody, worked out on their own adjusted family net income. Tick the shared custody box to halve the amounts.
What is the child disability benefit?
An extra amount of up to $3,480 a year ($290 a month) for each child who is eligible for the disability tax credit, paid with the CCB. It's reduced by 3.2% (one child) or 5.7% (two or more) of adjusted family net income over $82,847.
