How to use the gold loan calculator

  1. Enter the weight of your jewellery or coins, pick the purity and enter the gold rate (for 24K, or for your gold's purity).
  2. Choose how you'll repay: EMI, interest every month with the principal at the end, or bullet.
  3. Enter the interest rate and the term; open the extra section to leave out stones or set the amount you want.
  4. Read the most you can borrow, the EMI or amount due, and the comparison of the three ways to repay.

Worked example

50 g of 22K gold at ₹10,000 a gram of 24K is worth 50 × 916 ÷ 999 × ₹10,000 = ₹4,58,458. A loan above ₹2.5 lakh can be up to 80% of that, so you can borrow ₹3,66,766. At 10% for 12 months the EMI is ₹32,245 (₹20,169 of interest). As a bullet loan you can borrow ₹3,33,424 and repay ₹3,66,766 at the end. 20 g of the same gold, worth ₹1,83,383, gets up to ₹1,55,875 (85%).

RBI's loan-to-value limits (from 1 April 2026)

Frequently asked questions

How much loan can I get on my gold?

Up to 85% of the gold's value for loans up to ₹2.5 lakh, 80% for loans above ₹2.5 lakh up to ₹5 lakh, and 75% above ₹5 lakh, under RBI's directions that apply from 1 April 2026. 50 g of 22K gold at ₹10,000 a gram of 24K is worth ₹4,58,458, so you can borrow up to ₹3,66,766 (80%).

How is my gold valued?

On the gold content only: the weight of the jewellery or coins less stones and other metal, times the purity (916 for 22K, 750 for 18K), times the lender's gold rate. Lenders test the purity and use their own rate, so ask for their valuation. Gold bars and other financial gold aren't accepted.

What is a bullet repayment gold loan?

You pay nothing until the end, then repay the loan and all the interest together. RBI limits bullet loans to 12 months, and the loan-to-value limit counts the interest due at the end, so you can borrow less: ₹3,33,424 instead of ₹3,66,766 on the same gold at 10% for a year.

EMI, monthly interest or bullet: which costs least?

At the same rate, an EMI costs the least interest because you repay the principal as you go: ₹20,169 on ₹3,66,766 at 10% over 12 months, against ₹36,677 if you pay only the interest monthly and the principal at the end. The calculator compares all three for your loan.

What happens if I don't repay?

The lender can auction the gold after giving notice, and must return any money left after the loan, interest and costs. When you repay in full, RBI's rules say the gold must be returned within seven working days.

Are gold loan rates fixed?

Rates vary by lender, loan size and scheme; banks and NBFCs publish their own. Enter the rate you're offered. Some lenders also charge processing and valuation fees.
