Random Name Picker

Paste a list of names or items, then spin the wheel or pick one or more winners at random. Good for giveaways, classroom questions, team draws and deciding who goes first.

6 entries. Add a name twice to give it two chances.

How to use the random name picker

  1. Type or paste names, one per line (or one line separated by commas).
  2. Choose Spin the wheel for a show, or Pick from list to draw several winners at once.
  3. Tick Remove each winner to draw again from the people who are left, for example when picking first, second and third place.

How the winner is chosen

Each entry gets a number from 0 to the number of entries minus one. The page asks your browser's secure generator for a random 32-bit number and keeps it only if it falls below the largest multiple of the list length, so no entry is favoured by rounding; then it takes the remainder. With 6 names, for example, the generator's 4,294,967,296 possible numbers are cut to 4,294,967,292 (a multiple of 6), giving each name exactly 715,827,882 of them.

Tips for giveaways

  • Remove duplicate entries first if each person should have one chance.
  • Share your screen or record it while you spin, so entrants can see the draw.
  • Need numbers instead of names? Use the random number generator. For yes/no decisions there's a coin flip.

Frequently asked questions

Is the random picker fair?

Yes. The winner is drawn with your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), using rejection sampling so every entry has exactly the same chance. The winner is chosen before the wheel starts moving; the spin just shows the result.

How do I stop the same person winning twice?

Tick Remove each winner from the list. After each spin or pick, the winner is taken out, so the next draw is only between the people left. In Pick from list mode, several winners drawn at once are always different entries.

Can I give someone a better chance?

Add their name more than once. Each line is one equal chance, so a name on two lines is twice as likely to be picked.

How many names can I add?

Up to 500. The wheel shows up to 60 so the names stay readable; for longer lists, use Pick from list.

Are the names saved or sent anywhere?

No. The list stays in this page in your browser and is gone when you close it.
