Measure both feet in the evening and use the longer one. Sizes come from the international formulas in ISO/TS 19407; it's a guide, not a fitting.
How to use the shoe size converter
Choose men's, women's or kids' shoes.
Enter a size you know and its system (US, UK/India, EU or Japan), or measure your foot and enter its length.
Read the size in every system, with the foot length it fits. Open the size chart to see the sizes around yours.
How sizes are worked out
EU = 0.15 × foot length in mm + 2 (a Paris point is 2/3 cm)
UK adult = 3 × foot length in inches − 23; UK children's sizes start 13 lower
US men's = UK + 1, US women's = UK + 2
Japan = foot length in cm; Mondopoint is the same in mm
Formulas from ISO/TS 19407 as given in Wikipedia's shoe size article; brand comparison from Nike's size chart; the Indian "Bha" proposal as reported by SATRA. Checked 7 October 2026.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert US shoe sizes to UK sizes?
For men, the UK size is one less than the US size: US 9 is UK 8. For women it's two less: US 8 is UK 6 (some brands, such as Nike, make it two and a half). Kids' sizes are about half a size apart. India uses the UK sizes.
What is EU 42 in US and UK sizes?
EU 42 fits a foot of about 26.7 cm, which is UK 8.5, US men's 9.5 and US women's 10.5. EU sizes go up in steps of two-thirds of a centimetre (a Paris point), so each EU size is smaller than a UK or US size step.
Which shoe size system does India use?
Indian brands sell shoes in UK sizes, so an Indian size 8 is a UK 8 (US men's 9, EU 41.5). An Indian sizing system called "Bha", based on a nationwide foot survey by CSIR-CLRI, has been proposed to the Bureau of Indian Standards but wasn't in use as of October 2026.
How do I measure my foot for shoe size?
Stand on a sheet of paper against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe, and measure from the wall to the mark. Do both feet in the evening, when feet are largest, and use the longer one. Enter that length here for every system at once; Japanese sizes are simply the foot length in centimetres.
Why does my size differ between brands?
Each brand builds its shoes on its own lasts and rounds sizes its own way, so the same foot can be half a size or a full size apart, especially in EU sizes. This converter uses the international ISO 19407 formulas; check the brand's chart, and try shoes on when you can.
What do C and Y mean in kids' shoe sizes?
US kids' sizes run 1C to 13.5C for toddlers and little kids ("C" for child), then start again at 1Y for big kids (youth). A 17 cm foot is a US 10.5C, UK children's 10 and EU 27.5. Leave about a thumb's width of room for growth.
