How to convert text to handwriting
- Type or paste your text. Leave an empty line between paragraphs, just as you would on paper.
- Pick a handwriting font, the ink colour, the paper and the page size; adjust the writing size, line spacing and natural variation.
- Check each page in the preview, then download a PDF of all the pages, or a PNG of one page.
How the pages are made
Pages are drawn at 150 dots per inch: an A4 sheet is 1240 × 1754 pixels and US Letter is 1275 × 1650. Ruled paper has a line every 8 mm by default, like a school exercise book, below a 30 mm header, and each line of writing sits on a ruled line. Words wrap to the next line when they reach the right margin, and the text moves on to a new page when one is full. To make the writing look natural, every word is moved a little up or down, tilted by up to about 2°, made slightly bigger or smaller and given a slightly different ink strength, and each line drifts gently; whole words move together, so joined-up letters and Hindi words keep their shape.
Example
On A4 ruled paper with 8 mm lines, the lines start 30 mm from the top and stop 14 mm from the bottom, so a page holds 31 lines of writing; US Letter, which is shorter, holds 29. Narrowing the lines to 6 mm fits 42 lines on an A4 page, but use a smaller writing size so the letters don't touch the line above.
Tips
- Short paragraphs with blank lines between them look most like a real letter or notebook page.
- For a neat, readable page use Patrick Hand or Kalam with little variation; for a quick note, Caveat or Reenie Beanie with more.
- All the fonts are free fonts under the SIL Open Font License, served from this site.
Frequently asked questions
Does this use my own handwriting?
No. It uses handwriting-style fonts (Caveat, Kalam, Indie Flower and others) and adds small random changes to each word's position, tilt, size and ink, so the page looks natural. It can't copy your handwriting, and the result isn't your handwriting.
Can I hand it in as handwritten homework?
Not where your teacher, an exam or an office asks for work in your own hand: that is what they are checking. It's useful for notes, letters and cards, mock-ups, scrapbooks, practice sheets and anything where a handwritten look is all you need.
Can it write in Hindi or other languages?
Kalam writes Hindi, Marathi and Nepali (Devanagari) as well as English, and every font falls back to Kalam for Devanagari. Other scripts, such as Tamil, Bengali or Arabic, use your device's own fonts, so they look typed rather than handwritten. Arabic and Hebrew lines start from the right.
How do I make it look more real?
Use blue or black ink on ruled paper, raise Natural variation to natural or messy, and press Write it again until the words sit the way you like. Slightly larger word spacing and a font like Caveat or Reenie Beanie look the most like quick everyday handwriting.
Can I print it?
Yes. Download the PDF: every page is drawn at 150 dots per inch to fill an A4 or US Letter sheet exactly, so print it at 100% (actual size). PNG gives one page as an image for sharing.
Is it free, and is my text private?
It's free with no sign-up and no watermark. Your text stays in your browser; the pages are drawn on your device and nothing is uploaded.
