How to use the redundancy pay calculator
Choose where you work and when the job ends: the weekly pay cap went up on 6 April 2026.
Enter your age when the job ends, your full years of service and your pay before tax, per week, month or year.
Read your statutory redundancy pay and notice; open the enhanced scheme section if your contract pays more.
Worked example
A 42-year-old with 10 years' service earning £600 a week: the year that started when they were 41 counts one and a half weeks and the nine before it one week each, so 10.5 weeks × £600 = £6,300, all tax-free. On £900 a week the cap applies: 10.5 × £751 = £7,885.50. They're also owed 10 weeks' statutory notice at their full pay.
Qualifying service: 2 years; only the last 20 years count
Tax-free: the first £30,000 of redundancy pay

Frequently asked questions
How is statutory redundancy pay worked out?
For each full year of service, counting back from the end of the job: half a week's pay for a year that started before you were 22, one week's pay for a year that started when you were 22 to 40, and one and a half weeks' pay for a year that started when you were 41 or over. Only the last 20 years count, and a week's pay is capped.
What is the maximum statutory redundancy pay in 2026?
For jobs ending on or after 6 April 2026, a week's pay is capped at £751 in England, Scotland and Wales and £783 in Northern Ireland. The most anyone can get is 30 weeks (20 years at one and a half weeks): £22,530, or £23,490 in Northern Ireland. Before 6 April 2026 the caps were £719 and £749.
Who gets statutory redundancy pay?
Employees with at least 2 years' continuous service with the employer who are dismissed because of redundancy. Workers and the self-employed don't qualify, and you can lose it by turning down a suitable alternative job without a good reason.
What counts as a week's pay?
Your normal weekly pay before tax and other deductions. If your hours or pay vary, it's the average over the 12 weeks before the calculation date. To convert, a monthly salary is × 12 ÷ 52 and a yearly salary ÷ 52.
Is redundancy pay taxed?
The first £30,000 of statutory and enhanced redundancy pay together is tax-free. Anything above is taxed as income. Notice pay, pay in lieu of notice and holiday pay are taxed like normal pay.
How much notice do I get?
At least one week if you've worked for the employer for a month to 2 years, then one week for each full year of service, up to 12 weeks. Your contract may give more; the notice period is paid at your normal pay, not the capped amount.
