How stacked discounts work

A second discount applies to the already-discounted price, not the MRP. "50% + extra 20% off" on ₹1,000 is ₹1,000 → ₹500 → ₹400, a 60% total discount, not 70%.

Formula

Final = Price × (1 − d1/100) × (1 − d2/100)

Shopping tips

  • Check whether the discount is on MRP or on an already-reduced price.
  • Bank offers often have a maximum cap, such as 10% up to ₹1,500. Enter the effective percentage after the cap.
  • Compare the final price, not the percentage, across sites.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount percentage?

Discount % = (Original price − Sale price) ÷ Original price × 100. For example, ₹2,999 reduced to ₹1,799 is a 40% discount.

Why is 50% + 20% not 70% off?

Because the 20% is taken off the reduced price. Multiply the remaining shares: 0.5 × 0.8 = 0.4, so you pay 40% and save 60%.

Is GST included in the MRP?

In India, MRP includes all taxes, so the discounted price you pay already includes GST.
