Worked example
A bedroom measures 12 ft 6 in by 10 ft. 12 ft 6 in is 12.5 ft, so the area is 12.5 × 10 = 125 sq ft, which is 11.61 m² or 13.89 sq yd. Carpet at $4.50 per square foot costs 125 × 4.50 = $562.50. A round rug 10 ft across covers π × 5² = 78.54 sq ft.

How do I calculate square feet?
Measure the length and width in feet and multiply them. A room 12 ft 6 in by 10 ft is 12.5 × 10 = 125 sq ft. Turn inches into feet first (6 in = 0.5 ft), or type 12' 6" and the calculator does it for you.
How do I convert square metres or square inches to square feet?
1 m² = 10.764 sq ft, so multiply square metres by 10.764. A square foot is 12 × 12 = 144 square inches, so divide square inches by 144. A square yard is 9 sq ft and an acre is 43,560 sq ft. The calculator shows every one of these at once.
How do I find the square feet of a circle or a triangle?
A circle is π × (diameter ÷ 2)²: a round patio 10 ft across is about 78.54 sq ft. A triangle is half the base times the height, measured straight up from the base: a 6 ft base and 4 ft height give 12 sq ft. If you only know the three sides, choose "Triangle (three sides)".
