Fill the grid so every row, column and 3×3 box holds the digits 1 to 9 once each. Play today's puzzle, the same for everyone, or practise at any level.
Getting today's puzzle ready…
How to play
Tap an empty cell (or move with the arrow keys).
Tap a number on the keypad, or type 1 to 9. Tap the same number again, Erase, Backspace or 0 to clear it.
Switch on Notes (or press N) to pencil in candidates while you work something out.
Fill every cell correctly to finish. Your time, hints and mistakes are shown, with a result to share.
The rules
Each row holds 1 to 9 once.
Each column holds 1 to 9 once.
Each of the nine 3×3 boxes holds 1 to 9 once.
The numbers already on the board can't be changed. No maths is involved: the digits are just nine different symbols.
Worked example: the first step of an Easy puzzle
This Easy puzzle was made by the same generator as the game. The highlighted cell is where the hint button would start.

The cell at row 3, column 4 (marked ?) is 7. The hint explains it like this: “Only 7 fits in row 3, column 4: its row, column and box already have every other digit.” Placing it opens up the next step, and an Easy puzzle can be finished with this kind of reasoning alone.
Keyboard controls
Arrow keys move around the grid; 1–9 enter a number; Backspace, Delete or 0 clear a cell.
N switches notes on and off; Ctrl+Z undoes the last move.
Tips for solving
Scan for singles first. Pick a digit and look at each box: if the digit is already in two rows and two columns around it, there may be only one place left.
Use notes on harder puzzles. When two cells in a row can only be the same two digits (a pair), those digits can be removed from the rest of that row.
Look at the counts. The small number under each key shows how many of that digit are left to place; digits with few left are often quickest to finish.
Don't guess. Every puzzle here can be solved by reasoning, and a wrong guess is hard to undo several moves later. Use a hint if you're stuck.

Frequently asked questions
Is the daily sudoku the same for everyone?
Yes. Everyone who plays on the same date gets the same puzzle, so you can compare times with friends using the puzzle number. A new puzzle unlocks at midnight where you are. The daily level follows the week: Easy on Monday and Tuesday, Medium on Wednesday and Thursday, Hard on Friday and Saturday and Expert on Sunday.
How hard is each level?
Levels are set by the solving methods a puzzle needs, not just by how many numbers it starts with. Easy needs only singles and starts with at least 36 numbers. Medium needs pointing pairs or naked and hidden pairs. Hard needs triples, X-wings, swordfish or XY-wings. Expert needs more than that, such as chains.
Does every puzzle have exactly one solution?
Yes. Before a puzzle is shown, a solver checks that only one way of filling the grid follows the rules, so you never have to guess between two answers.
How do notes work?
Turn on Notes (or press N) and tap numbers to pencil small candidates into a cell. With the default option, placing a number removes it from the notes in the same row, column and box. Fill all notes writes every possible candidate for you.
Is my progress saved?
Your board, time and stats are saved in this browser on this device, so you can close the page and carry on later. Nothing is uploaded and there's no account; clearing your browser's site data resets them.
What does a hint do?
A hint first checks for a wrong number and clears it. Otherwise it fills in the next cell you can work out, and says why: either only one digit fits that cell, or a digit has only one place left in a row, column or box.
