Audio Normalizer & Silence Trimmer

Tidy voice-overs, voice notes and podcast clips before editing.

What each option does

  • Trim silence removes quiet parts (below −45 dB) at the start and end, keeping a short 0.1 s pad.
  • Normalise raises or lowers the whole file so its loudest peak sits at −1 dB, leaving headroom to avoid clipping.
  • Mono mixes both channels into one, which halves the file size for speech.

Peak normalisation changes volume evenly and does not compress dynamics. It does not remove background noise.

MP3 files are encoded with LAME (lamejs 1.2.1, licensed under the LGPL-3.0), which is loaded unmodified as a separate file. Licence and source code.

Frequently asked questions

Will normalising make it as loud as other videos?

It makes the loudest moment as loud as possible without clipping. Perceived loudness also depends on compression, which this tool doesn't apply.

Does it remove silence in the middle?

No, only at the start and end.

Can I save the result as MP3?

Yes. Choose MP3 under Save as. Normalise first, then encode: the MP3 keeps the new level. 128 kbps mono is plenty for voice notes and podcasts.

Is my audio uploaded?

No.
