How to crop an image
- Choose a photo.
- Pick a shape: free, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 16:9, 9:16 or 35×45 passport.
- Drag on the image to select the area to keep. The selection size in pixels is shown below.
- Click Crop & download.
Which shape for what
- 1:1 for profile pictures and square posts.
- 4:5 and 3:4 for tall Instagram posts; 9:16 for Stories, Reels and Shorts.
- 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails, slides and desktop wallpapers.
- 35×45 passport for the standard photo shape used by many passport and visa forms.
Example
From a 4000 × 3000 photo, the largest 16:9 crop is 4000 × 2250 pixels: the full width, trimming 750 pixels of height that you choose by where you drag. The crop keeps the original resolution, so nothing is blurred.
Tips
- PNG files stay PNG (keeping transparency); other images are saved as high-quality JPG.
- Phone photos are turned upright automatically before cropping.
