Circle Crop Image

Cut a photo into a circle, for profile pictures, email signatures, team pages and logos.

How to crop an image into a circle

  1. Choose a photo. The largest circle that fits is placed in the middle.
  2. Drag inside the circle to move it over the face, or drag outside it to draw a smaller circle.
  3. Optional: open Border to add a coloured ring around it.
  4. Download as PNG (transparent corners) or WebP. JPG fills the corners with the background colour you pick.

How big is the result?

The picture is a square as wide as your circle, with everything outside the circle transparent. A ring adds its width on every side, measured as a percentage of the circle's width.

Example

From a 1080 × 1350 portrait, the largest circle is 1080 pixels across, so you get a 1080 × 1080 PNG. Adding a 5% ring puts 54 pixels on each side (5% of 1080), making it 1188 × 1188.

Tips

  • Centre the face and leave a little space around the head, so the circle doesn't cut off hair or ears.
  • For a website or email signature, use the Resize tab to save a smaller copy, and keep PNG for the transparent corners.
  • To add text or adjust colours as well, use the Photo editor and choose the Circle shape.
  • Need a square crop or another shape? Use Crop image.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my circle picture have a white background?

JPG can't store transparency, so the area outside the circle is filled with a colour. Save as PNG or WebP to keep the corners transparent; that's the default here.

Do I need a round picture for WhatsApp, Instagram or LinkedIn?

No. Those apps take a square photo and show it in a circle themselves. A circle-cropped PNG is useful where you place the picture yourself: email signatures, slides, websites, team pages and printed badges. For profile photos, the circle preview here shows what the app will cut off.

Can I add a border around the circle?

Yes. Open Border and set a ring width (as a percentage of the circle) and colour. The ring is drawn outside the photo, so none of the picture is covered.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Cropping happens in your browser and the photo stays on your device.
