JPG to PNG Converter

Turn JPG photos, scans and logos into PNG files, one at a time or in a batch, without uploading them.

Runs in your browser: your images aren't uploaded. Up to 50 at a time, 30.00 MB each. Saved copies don't keep the original's hidden details (camera, GPS location).

How to convert JPG to PNG

  1. Choose one JPG, or select several (up to 50).
  2. Optional: make a background colour transparent, for example the white behind a logo.
  3. Click Convert image, then download the PNG, or all of them as a ZIP.

The PNG has the same width and height, and the same name with the new extension (holiday.png from holiday.jpg). Phone photos are turned upright, and the camera details and location stored in the JPG aren't copied.

JPG or PNG: what changes

  • JPG is lossy: small files, made for photos. It has no transparency, and every re-save loses a little detail.
  • PNG is lossless and supports transparency. It suits screenshots, logos, signatures and anything you will edit again. Photos as PNG are much larger.

Example: a signature on white paper

With White at 10% tolerance, each pixel is compared with pure white. The paper (250, 248, 252) is within 10% of white, so it becomes fully transparent. The ink (20, 24, 60) is far from white and stays as it is. A soft edge pixel (200, 200, 200) is in between: it becomes 46% opaque grey (136, 136, 136), which looks the same as before on white but has no white halo on a dark background. That is how a scanned signature or logo ends up clean on a coloured document or website.

Next steps without re-uploading

After converting, the Next step buttons open the cropper, resizer, compressor or text tool with the same picture. For iPhone photos use HEIC to JPG; to go the other way, use PNG to JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so nothing more is lost from now on, but the blur and blocky edges that JPG compression already caused stay in the picture. Converting is worth it when you need PNG: to edit and re-save without further loss, for transparency, or because a site asks for PNG.

Why is my PNG much bigger than the JPG?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG throws away detail you barely see. For photos that usually makes the PNG several times larger. For screenshots, logos and text the difference is smaller. If you only need a smaller file, keep the JPG or use the image compressor.

Can I make the background transparent?

Yes, if it is one plain colour, such as a logo or signature on white paper. Choose White (or pick the colour) under Make a colour transparent, and raise the tolerance a little for slightly grey scans. Busy backgrounds, like a person in a room, need a different tool: the background colour changer for portraits.

Can I convert many JPGs at once?

Yes. Choose up to 50 images together. Each is converted with the same settings, and you can download them one by one or all together in a ZIP.

What about .jpeg and .jfif files?

They are the same format as .jpg with a different extension, and they convert the same way. The PNG keeps your file name: IMG_2041.jpeg becomes IMG_2041.png.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with the canvas built into it, so the files never leave your device. That's also why it works for private documents and ID scans.
