HEIC to JPG Converter

Turn iPhone HEIC photos into JPG (or PNG) that open everywhere, a whole batch at once.

92% keeps photos looking the same

Converted on your device; nothing is uploaded. The first conversion in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Android loads the HEIC decoder (about 1.5 MB). Safari uses its own.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Choose your HEIC photos (up to 30 at a time, each up to 30 MB). You can add more before converting.
  2. Pick JPG (smaller, works everywhere) or PNG (lossless, larger).
  3. Press Convert, then download each photo, or all of them as one ZIP file.

Why HEIC photos won't open

HEIC stores the picture with HEVC (H.265) compression inside a HEIF container. Apple devices read it natively, but most other systems need an extra codec, and websites that ask for a photo usually accept only JPG or PNG. Converting decodes the HEVC picture and saves it again as a standard JPG at the same size, turned the right way up.

Example

Two photos both called IMG_0042.HEIC, from different folders, become IMG_0042.jpg and IMG_0042 (2).jpg inside the ZIP, so neither overwrites the other. Each keeps its full resolution: a 4032 ร— 3024 iPhone photo stays 4032 ร— 3024.

Tips

  • Need a smaller file for a form? Convert here, then use the Image compressor to reach a size in KB.
  • To crop, rotate or add text, open the HEIC straight in the Photo editor; it reads HEIC too.
  • Big batches use a lot of memory on phones: if your phone struggles, convert 10 photos at a time.

HEIC photos are decoded with libheif and libde265 (libheif-js 1.23.2, licensed under the LGPL-3.0), loaded unmodified as a separate file. Licence and source code.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the High Efficiency Image format iPhones and iPads use by default. It stores photos in less space than JPG, but many Windows apps, Android phones and websites can't open it, which is why converting to JPG helps.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. They are converted in your browser. On Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Android a HEIC decoder (libheif) is loaded into the page the first time; Safari has its own. Your photos never leave your device.

Will the JPG look worse?

At the default 92% quality the JPG looks the same as the HEIC to the eye, at the same pixel size. JPG files are usually larger than the HEIC because HEIC compresses better. PNG is lossless but much larger.

Does it keep the date, location and camera details?

No. The picture is redrawn and saved as a new file, so the photo's metadata (EXIF: date taken, GPS location, camera model) isn't copied. That is handy before sharing, but keep your originals if you need the dates.

How do I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?

Apple's setting: open Settings, tap Camera, tap Formats, then choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG (and videos as H.264). Photos you already took stay HEIC.
