What LIC asks for
LIC hadn't published a 2026 AAO or ADO notification when we checked, so these are the rules from the AAO 2025 (32nd batch) notification and the ADO 2022-23 zonal notices, which agree on every number. The pixel sizes are "preferred" and the KB ranges are firm. Two LIC details are easy to miss: the declaration may be written in black or blue ink, and a photo in which your face isn't clearly visible gets the application rejected without a refund of the fee.
| Upload | Pixels | File size | Format | Background |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 200 × 230 px (preferred) 3.5 × 4.5 cm | 20–50 KB | JPG / JPEG | Light-coloured, preferably white |
| Signature | 140 × 60 px (preferred) | 10–20 KB | JPG / JPEG | White paper, black ink pen |
| Left thumb impression | 240 × 240 px (preferred) 3 × 3 cm, 200 DPI (preferred) | 20–50 KB | JPG / JPEG | White paper, black or blue ink |
| Handwritten declaration | 800 × 400 px (preferred) 10 × 5 cm, 200 DPI (preferred) | 50–100 KB | JPG / JPEG | White paper, black or blue ink |

How to use the LIC resizer
- Choose your photo for card 1. For cards 2, 3 and 4, choose a scan or a straight phone photo of your signature, your left thumb impression and your written declaration.
- Drag or zoom each picture into place. Keep your whole face clear in the photo; on the thumb card, zoom in until the impression reaches the edges, since LIC asks for the scan to be cropped to the edge of the impression. Whiten the paper cleans up a grey scan, and Make the background white fixes a dark wall behind you.
- When a card's checklist is green, download its file: 200 × 230 px for the photo, 140 × 60 px for the signature, 240 × 240 px for the thumb and 800 × 400 px for the declaration.
Example: an LIC signature from a phone photo
- Signature: a 10-megapixel phone picture of the paper, 3,648 × 2,736 px, opens as a 2,400 × 1,800 px copy; the frame at the notice's 140 × 60 px shape covers 2,400 × 1,029 px, drawn smaller, at 140 × 60 px. The JPEG is 10,240 to 20,000 bytes (10–20 KB), named lic-signature-140x60.jpg. Under 10,240 bytes at full quality, an invisible comment makes up the rest.
The JPEG quality it lands on depends on the picture itself.
AAO or ADO: which notice applies
The two posts are recruited differently. AAO (Generalist, Specialist and Assistant Engineer) is notified by LIC's Central Office in Mumbai, and the 2025 application ran on the IBPS-hosted portal. ADO (Apprentice Development Officer) is notified separately by each of LIC's 8 zonal offices; for 2022-23 we read the Mumbai notice (dated 21 January 2023) and the Delhi notice (dated 21 January 2023). The upload sizes match AAO 2025 exactly, so one set of files from this page fits either form. The differences are small: AAO 2025 asks for the signature “in .jpg format” while ADO allows .jpg or jpeg, and only AAO 2025 has a live photo step (below). When ADO is advertised again, read your own zone's notice: each zone publishes its own.
The declaration and thumb impression
LIC's declaration is two sentences, quoted in full above under the handwritten declaration, with one blank for your name. Write it out in English, in your own handwriting: a declaration written by someone else, or in another language, makes the application invalid. Black or blue ink on white paper is allowed, but not capital letters. The ADO pre-registration list mentions black ink only, so black is the safe choice if you apply for ADO. If you are visually impaired and can't write, the notification lets you have the text typed, put your left thumb impression below it, and upload that at the same size.
The declaration file is 800 × 400 px at 200 DPI (10 × 5 cm), twice as wide as it is tall, so write the text in a wide block rather than down a whole page. For the thumb (240 × 240 px, 3 × 3 cm), press your left thumb once on white paper with black or blue ink and lift it straight off; LIC asks for a scan that isn't smudged. Without a left thumb, the right thumb is allowed. The notification's scanning settings are a minimum of 200 dpi with colour set to True Colour.
The live photo in the LIC form
The AAO 2025 form also takes a live photo, besides the photo you upload; the ADO 2022-23 notices don't mention one. Capture Photo uses your webcam, and Click here to Scan shows a QR code that opens a capture page on your phone. Use a light-coloured, preferably white background with enough light, look straight at the camera and keep it passport size. Both posts record your photo and biometrics again at the exam venue.
“In addition to the above photograph, candidates will also be required to capture and upload their live photograph either by using webcam or mobile phone.”
It applies to AAO only. The notification lists what to avoid: a small photo, coloured glasses, sunglasses or a cap, and a shadow, mask, blur or dark background. It gives no pixel or KB limits for the live photo, and the form takes it from your camera, so this tool doesn't make it.
Why LIC uploads get rejected
- A photo in which your face isn't clearly visible gets the application rejected, and the fee isn't refunded.
- A photo or signature uploaded in the wrong place, or not to the specification, means your admission is rejected.
- A signature or handwritten declaration in capital letters isn't accepted.
- If the signature you put on the attendance sheet or call letter at the exam doesn't match the uploaded one, you are disqualified.
- A declaration written by anyone else or in a language other than English makes the application invalid.
- Caps, hats and dark glasses in the photo aren't acceptable.
How the tool reaches the KB range
Each LIC upload has one pixel size, so that never changes; only the JPEG quality does. The tool tries qualities from high to low, halving the gap each time, and keeps the best one whose file is under the maximum. If a file is still under the minimum at full quality, as a small, clean 140 × 60 px signature can be, it adds an invisible comment to the file until it reaches 10 KB; what you see doesn't change. LIC states 200 DPI for the thumb and declaration, so those two files carry it; it states none for the photo, so none is set there. Each checklist is read back from the finished file. Applying to a bank too? The IBPS and SBI resizers make the same four uploads to their own notices.
Check before you apply
- No 2026 AAO or ADO notification was out on 8 October 2026: LIC's careers page listed only AAO 2025. When the next one comes, check every number against it.
- ADO is notified separately by each of LIC's 8 zonal offices. We read the Mumbai and Delhi notices of 2022-23; when ADO is advertised again, read your own zone's notice.
- The pixel sizes are marked "(preferred)". The KB ranges are the firm limits, so the tool keeps to those first.
- The photo's "4.5cm x 3.5cm" doesn't say which side is the width. Because 200 × 230 px is portrait, it's read as 3.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm tall; the tool makes 200 × 230 px and doesn't try to match the cm size.
- AAO 2025 says "Signature image in .jpg format", ADO 2022-23 ".jpg or jpeg". The tool saves .jpg files, which suit both.
- The ADO pre-registration list says black ink for the declaration, while its upload rules say black or blue. Black ink meets both.
- AAO 2025 also takes a live photo with your webcam or phone during the application; ADO 2022-23 didn't. This tool doesn't make the live photo.
