A countdown timer that beeps when time is up. Pick a preset or set hours, minutes and seconds; the time left also shows in your browser tab.
5:00
Set a time and press Start
The alarm beeps for 30 seconds when time is up, even in a background tab, as long as this tab stays open and your device isn't muted. Space starts and pauses.
How to use the timer
Press a preset (1 minute to 1 hour) to start straight away, or type hours, minutes and seconds and press Start.
Press Pause and Resume as needed, or +1 min to add time while it runs.
When it reaches zero you'll hear three beeps every two seconds for 30 seconds. Press Stop alarm to silence it.
The countdown shows in the tab title, so you can keep working in other tabs. Typing 1 hour, 30 minutes and 15 seconds sets a 1:30:15 timer; under an hour it shows minutes and seconds, like 25:00.
Ideas for using it
Focus sessions: 25 minutes of work, then a 5-minute break.
Exams and practice tests: set the paper's time limit and keep the tab visible.
Cooking, workouts and presentations: the +1 min button extends a timer without starting over.
Need to time something rather than count down? Use the stopwatch with lap times. To add up hours worked, try the hours calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Will the alarm go off if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The beeps are scheduled on your device's audio clock when you press Start, so they play on time even when the tab is in the background and the browser slows down its other work. Keep the tab open, and keep your sound on.
What happens if my computer or phone goes to sleep?
Nothing can play while the device sleeps. The timer counts from the end time it worked out when you started, so when the device wakes up it shows the right time left, or Time's up if it has passed. For phones, keep the screen on for anything important.
Why can't I hear the alarm?
Check that the device isn't muted and that the Alarm sound box is ticked, then press Test sound. Browsers only allow sound after you've pressed something on the page, which the Start button does.
Can I run more than one timer?
Open the timer in another browser tab. Each tab shows its own countdown in its tab title.
How accurate is it?
It works out the finishing time from your device's clock when you press Start and counts down to that, rather than adding up ticks, so it doesn't drift even if the page is busy. The display updates several times a second.
