Sign PDF

Add your handwritten signature to a PDF without printing and scanning.

How to sign a PDF

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Draw your signature in the box. Use Clear to try again.
  3. Pick the page (a number, or last, the default), the position and the width.
  4. Click Sign & download.

Where the signature goes

The signature is placed as a transparent image about 14 mm above the bottom edge, on the left, centre or right. The default width of 150 points is about 53 mm, a typical handwritten signature; you can choose from 40 to 400 points. The rest of the page isn't changed, and form fields and bookmarks are kept.

Tips for a clean signature

  • Sign large across the pad; it's scaled down, so small shaky strokes look neater.
  • On a laptop, a touchpad is harder than a mouse; a phone with your finger often gives the best result.
  • Sign a copy, not your only original, and check the result before sending it.

Legal note

This adds an image of your signature. That is fine for everyday documents such as offer letters, internal forms and agreements where the other side accepts a scanned signature. Documents that legally require a certificate-based digital signature, as many tax and government filings do, must be signed through those services.

Frequently asked questions

Is my signature stored?

No. It exists only in your browser while the page is open and is never uploaded.

Can I sign on a phone?

Yes. Draw with your finger on the signature pad; a stylus works too.

Can I put the signature somewhere else on the page?

This tool places it at the bottom left, centre or right. To place it anywhere, or add a typed name and date, use the PDF editor's pen and text tools.

Is this legally valid?

It depends on the document and the parties. Where a certificate-based digital signature (such as a DSC) or an official eSign is required, use those services instead.
