Fill PDF Form

Complete application and registration forms without printing them.

How to fill a PDF form

  1. Choose a fillable PDF. Every text box, tick box, drop-down and option group is listed.
  2. Type answers, tick boxes and pick options. Existing answers are shown so you can correct them.
  3. Tick Flatten if the recipient should not be able to change the answers, then download.

Fillable or flat?

A fillable PDF has real form fields: in most PDF viewers you can click into the boxes and type. A flat PDF only looks like a form, often because it was scanned or printed to PDF. This tool reads the fields directly, so it tells you straight away if there are none. For flat forms, use the PDF editor to type on top of the page, and Sign PDF to add a signature.

Flatten or keep editable?

Keep the form editable while you're still working on it, or if the organisation wants to read the answers as data. Flatten the final copy you send by email, so the answers can't be changed and look the same in every app.

Tips

  • Answers are written with a standard Latin font, so Hindi or other scripts may appear as question marks. Use English where the form allows it.
  • Check dates and numbers against the format the form asks for; this tool doesn't validate them.
  • Save the filled copy under a new name and keep the blank form for next time.

Frequently asked questions

It says my PDF has no form fields. Why?

The PDF is probably a scan or a flat print file. Only PDFs made with fillable fields can be filled this way; use the PDF editor to type on other PDFs.

Why are the field names strange?

Fields are listed by the names the form's author gave them, which are sometimes codes like Text1. Fill them in order and check the result, or open the form alongside to match them up.

What does flatten do?

It merges your answers into the page so they look the same everywhere and can no longer be edited.

Does it work with every form?

It works with standard fillable (AcroForm) PDFs, which most forms are. A few forms built with Adobe's XFA technology only work in Adobe Reader: if a form clearly has boxes but no fields are found here, fill it there.

Is my form uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.
