Read your gratuity and the days of pay it's based on; switch the daily wage basis if your employer uses 365 days.
Worked example
Someone on AED 10,000 basic who joined on 1 March 2019 and leaves on 30 September 2026 has 2,771 days of service: 7 years and 216 days. The first five years earn 105 days and the remaining 2.59 years earn 77.75 days at 30 a year, 182.75 days in all. Frequently asked questions
How is gratuity calculated in the UAE?
On your last basic salary: 21 days' basic pay for each of your first five years of service and 30 days' for each year after that, with part years paid in proportion once you've completed a full year. On AED 10,000 basic, 3 years earns 63 days, or AED 21,000.
Is gratuity reduced if I resign?
Not under the 2021 Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021). The old rule that cut gratuity by a third or two thirds for resigning in the first five years was in the previous law. The main exception is dismissal for gross misconduct.
Do I get gratuity before one year?
No. End-of-service gratuity starts once you've completed one year of continuous service. After that, every extra day counts in proportion.
Is gratuity based on basic or total salary?
On the basic salary only, without housing, transport or other allowances. Days of unpaid leave aren't counted in the length of service.
Is there a maximum gratuity?
Yes. The total can't be more than two years' wage. On AED 10,000 basic that's AED 240,000, reached after 25½ years of service (720 days of basic pay).
Should the daily wage be basic ÷ 30 or ÷ 365?
Most calculators and employers divide the monthly basic salary by 30. Some work it out as basic × 12 ÷ 365, which gives a slightly lower figure; the calculator shows either. Check your contract or ask the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) if it matters in your case.
