How to take the APM test

  1. Choose a test length; 30 seconds is a good start, 60 seconds a fuller measure.
  2. Click the box to start. Keep clicking in it and pressing keys until time runs out.
  3. Read your APM and the split between mouse and keyboard.

While the test runs, keys are caught by the page so they don't scroll it or move between buttons; shortcuts with Ctrl, Alt or ⌘ still work. For a single kind of action, try the click speed test or the spacebar clicker.

Everything runs in your browser; scores aren't uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What is APM?

Actions per minute: how many commands you give in a minute, counting each mouse click and each key press. Strategy (RTS) and MOBA players use it as a measure of how fast they play.

How is my APM worked out?

The test counts every click and key press from your first action until the time runs out, then scales it to a minute: 150 actions in 30 seconds is 150 × 60 ÷ 30 = 300 APM.

What counts as an action?

Each press of any mouse button inside the box and each key press while the test runs. Holding a key down counts once, not as the computer's automatic repeats.

Is this the same as the APM a game shows?

It's raw APM: every action counts. Some games and replay tools also show effective APM, which leaves out spam such as repeated clicks on the same spot, so in-game numbers can be lower.

What is the fastest second?

The most actions you made inside any one-second stretch of the test, with the APM you'd reach at that pace (actions × 60). It shows your bursts, which a long test's average hides.
