Frequently asked questions
What is my nakshatra?
Your janma (birth) nakshatra is the one of the 27 lunar mansions the Moon was in when you were born, measured on the sidereal zodiac. Each covers 13°20′ and is split into four padas of 3°20′.
Do I need my exact birth time?
The Moon moves through a nakshatra in about a day, so the date alone often gives the right star, but not always. The tool shows the range of birth times that give the same nakshatra and pada, so you can see whether a small error in the time matters.
How does the name method work?
Each of the 108 padas has a starting sound used when choosing a name, so a name's first sound points to a pada. Rahul starts with Ra, which is Chitra pada 3. This is how names are matched to stars; it doesn't tell you the Moon's position at your birth.
Why does my name show two nakshatras?
In English letters some sounds are shared: Ta, Da, Na, Tha and Dha each stand for two different Devanagari letters (for example त and ट), which belong to different padas. Choose the one your name is written with, or type the name in Devanagari.
Which ayanamsa is used?
Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), with the Moon's position from the astronomy-engine library, the same as our kundli generator.
