PDF to PowerPoint

Turn a PDF into a PowerPoint presentation you can edit: each page becomes a slide, with its text in text boxes and its pictures in place.

Slides

Text goes into text boxes you can edit; pictures and backgrounds stay as they are.

Converted on your device: the PDF is never uploaded. Opens in PowerPoint, Google Slides, Keynote and LibreOffice Impress.

How to convert PDF to PowerPoint

  1. Choose a PDF (up to 100 MB and 200 pages).
  2. Pick Editable text to change the words later, or Pictures only for an exact look.
  3. Press Convert to PowerPoint and download the .pptx file.

How it works

The converter reads where each piece of text sits on the page, its size, weight and colour, and joins pieces on the same line. Lines with the same size and even spacing are kept together in one text box, so a paragraph stays a paragraph. The page is then drawn without its text and placed behind the boxes as a picture, which keeps logos, photos, charts and coloured backgrounds. Text colours are measured by comparing the page drawn with and without its text.

Example: slide size

Slides take the size of the first page, at 72 points to the inch. An A4 page (595.28 ร— 841.89 points) gives 8.27 ร— 11.69 inch slides, and a 24 pt heading stays 24 pt. If a later page is US Letter (612 ร— 792 points), it is scaled by 0.973 to fit the A4 slide and centred, with about 0.5 inch above and below.

Tips

  • Presentations saved as PDF convert best, because each page already is a slide.
  • Text that sits on a rotated angle, such as a side label, gets its own turned text box.
  • Tables come through as text boxes. For tables you want to calculate with, use PDF to Excel; for long documents, PDF to Word is easier to edit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit the text in PowerPoint?

Yes, with Editable text: every line of text becomes a text box at the same place, size and colour. Fonts are replaced by Arial, Times New Roman or Courier New, whichever is closest, so a line can come out slightly wider or narrower than in the PDF.

What's the difference between the two modes?

Editable text puts the page's pictures and shapes in the background and the text on top in text boxes. Pictures only turns each page into one image: it looks exactly like the PDF, but nothing can be edited. Use it for slides you only want to present.

Why is a slide only a picture?

That page has no selectable text, usually because it's a scan or a photo. There's nothing to put in text boxes, so the page is kept as a picture. Run it through OCR first if you need the words.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the PDF stays on your device.

Does it work with Google Slides and Keynote?

Yes. The .pptx file opens in PowerPoint, Google Slides, Apple Keynote and LibreOffice Impress.
