Admit Card Photo Checker

Check the photo, signature or other file you're about to upload against your exam's official rules: the pixel size, the KB range, the file type, the DPI and the shape, read from the file itself, with the reason for every failure. The photo and signature on an admit card usually come from the files you upload, so it's worth getting them right first. Nothing is uploaded.

AFCAT rules as per the AFCAT 02/2026 Notification (read on 8 October 2026); check the latest notice before you apply. Open the official notice ↗

Passport photograph

Any pixel size · 100–200 KB · JPG/JPEG

Signature

Any pixel size · 80–150 KB · JPG/JPEG

Thumb impression

Any pixel size · 50–100 KB · JPG/JPEG

The AFCAT form also has a Live Image Capture step (form item 10.4) that takes your picture with the device camera, besides the photo you upload, so apply from a computer with a webcam or from a phone. The live photo isn't a file you upload, so it can't be checked here.

Runs in your browser: your files are read on your device, never uploaded, and not changed.

How to check your exam photo

  1. Pick your exam. Its uploads appear as numbered cards, with the size and KB range from its notice; for any other form, choose “Another form” and type its rules.
  2. Choose the file you plan to upload in each card. Nothing is changed or sent anywhere.
  3. Read the checklist: ✓ passes, ✗ fails and says why, ! is worth a look, and • is for you to check by eye. Fix a failing file with the tool linked under it, then check the new file.

Example: two files through the checker

IBPS photograph: a 600 × 800 px photo of 82,000 bytes, saved by a phone at 72 DPI. The checker says: “1 problem: fix the line that fails before you upload”

  • Passes: JPEG file: IBPS accepts JPG / JPEG
  • Look at this: 600 × 800 px: IBPS asks for 200 × 230 px (preferred). IBPS marks 200 × 230 px as preferred, so the file size is the firm limit, but making it exactly that size is the safe choice. The IBPS Photo, Signature & Thumb Resizer frames and sizes it to 200 × 230 px.
  • Fails: 80.1 KB (82,000 bytes): IBPS asks for 20–50 KB. 31.3 KB too big. The IBPS Photo, Signature & Thumb Resizer lowers the JPEG quality, and the pixel size only where the notice allows it, to get under the maximum.
  • Look at this: 72 DPI in the file: the notice asks for at least 200 DPI. The notice's 200 DPI is the least resolution to scan or photograph at. The DPI stored in a file is only a label, often left out or set to 72 by apps, and portals rarely read it; if you scanned at 200 DPI or more, the pixels are fine. The IBPS Photo, Signature & Thumb Resizer writes 200 DPI into the file.

RRB signature: a 280 × 120 px signature scan of 31,850 bytes with no DPI in it. The checker says: “Passes every check below”

  • Passes: JPEG file: RRB accepts JPG/JPEG
  • Passes: 280 × 120 px: RRB asks for at least 140 × 60 px
  • Passes: 31.1 KB (31,850 bytes): RRB asks for 30–49 KB

Both files are described by their numbers only: these are the lines the checker gives for those numbers, worked out when this page was built. The IBPS pixel size is marked “preferred” and its DPI is a minimum scan resolution, so neither fails; the file size does. RRB's pixel size is a minimum, so a larger signature passes.

What the checker reads from your file

  • The real file type. The first bytes of a file say what it is, whatever its name. A PNG renamed to .jpg, or an iPhone HEIC photo, is caught here.
  • The stored pixel size. For a JPEG this comes from the file's header, which is what an upload portal reads, not from how your gallery shows it.
  • The size in bytes. Compared with the notice's KB range both ways of counting a KB, 1,000 and 1,024 bytes, so a file right at the edge gets a warning instead of a false pass.
  • The DPI, only where the notice states one. It's a number stored in the JPEG header; it doesn't change the picture, but a form that asks for 200 DPI can read it. Where the notice gives a minimum scan resolution, a file at or above it passes.
  • The shape, where the notice gives an allowed range of width to height, or a size only in cm (a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo is a 7:9 portrait).
  • A rotate flag left by a phone camera, which can make a portal show the photo on its side.
  • The background, as an estimate from the colours along the photo's edges, only where the notice asks for a white one.

Each line follows how firmly the notice words its rule. Exact sizes that a notice marks as “preferred”, like IBPS's, get a ! rather than a ✗ when they don't match, because the notice treats the KB range as the firm limit. A size given as a minimum, like RRB's 140 × 60 px or Sarathi's 420 × 525 px, fails only when the file is smaller. CLAT prints no size at all: 200 × 230 px is what its form's own cropper saves, so any size passes. A DPI the notice gives as the least scan resolution (CAT, the bank exams, Sarathi) passes at or above it, and only a notice that states the file's own resolution, like TNPSC's 200 DPI, fails another value. A size given only in cm, like CTET's 3.5 × 4.5 cm, is checked as a shape. A rule that needs eyes, like your name and the date printed on a TNPSC photo, is listed with a •.

Exams the checker knows

The rules come from each exam's official notice, the same ones its own resizer page uses and quotes. Check the latest notice before you apply: each exam page says when we will read it again.

What a passing file doesn't prove

The checker tests the rules a notice puts in numbers. It can't tell whether the photo is recent enough, whether your face fills the share the notice asks for, or whether the signature is really yours and in the right ink, so those rules are listed under each result for you to check. Several exams also take a live photo with your webcam or phone during the form; that isn't a file, so it can't be checked in advance.

To make files that pass, use your exam's own page from the table, the Signature Extractor for a signature on paper, or Add Name and Date to Photo where a notice wants them printed on the photo. For any other KB target, Increase Image Size in KB fits a photo to a range.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if my photo is right for the exam form?

Pick your exam, choose the photo file you plan to upload, and read the checklist. Each line is worked out from the file itself: its real type, its pixel size, its size in bytes, the DPI written in it and its shape, against the rules in the exam's notice. A line marked ✗ (read out as "Fails" by a screen reader) says why it fails and which tool makes a file that passes.

My photo shows 49 KB, so why does the checker warn about a 50 KB limit?

Computers and phones don't all count a KB the same way: some count 1,000 bytes, others 1,024. A file of 50,500 bytes is 49.3 KB one way and 50.5 KB the other, so it passes one portal's check and fails another's. The checker reads the exact number of bytes and warns when a file passes only one way of counting.

What does 'stored sideways, with a flag' mean?

Phones often save a photo turned on its side and add a note in the file telling viewers to turn it upright. Your gallery reads the note; some upload portals don't, so they show the photo sideways and read its width and height swapped. Saving the photo again from the exam's resizer stores it upright.

Does the checker look at my face and the background?

It doesn't judge your face, so check the face share, expression, spectacles and how recent the photo is yourself: those rules are listed under each result. For exams that ask for a white background, it estimates how light the edges of the photo are, which catches a grey or coloured wall, but it's an estimate, not a guarantee.

If my file passes here, will the form accept it?

It meets the rules the notice states, as we read them on the date shown. A portal can have checks a notice doesn't print, and rules change between cycles, so open the latest notice before you apply, and look at the file once more after you upload it.

Is my photo uploaded when I check it?

No. The file is read in your browser and never sent anywhere, and the checker doesn't change it.
